Empty Bowls is back and better than ever!
Empty Bowls, benefitting SAMMinistries, is being held Sunday, November 13th to kick of Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week. It's right around the corner and there are plenty of ways to participate!

Calling all members and those who wish to join us in person on May 22 starting at 2pm at A&E Products in Seguin, Texas. It's just a short drive from San Antonio and will be making bowls for this year's Empty Bowls event before we get the lively fun and food.

Janice Peacock to Present October 22

Janice Peacock will be our Guest Presenter at the SAGAG October General Meeting via Skype on October 22. Logon at 6:30 - 6:45 (to make sure you have no issues, and to visit), quick meeting at 6:45, and Janice presents at 7:00 p.m.

Don't miss this incredible opportunity to learn about and from this talented artist! Janice was originally scheduled to teach at Dream Fire Glass Studio this fall, and has graciously accepted our request to present at this virtual venue in the meantime. Janice Peacock is an artist working in glass & author. Janice has been making one-of-a-kind beads and jewelry since 1992. She also creates large scale sand-cast glass sculptures featuring African masks used in traditional ceremonies. Janice's newest passion is glass micro mosaic jewelry. Micro mosaics originated in Italy and became popular with tourists in the 1800s. Janice has learned how to create these ancient pieces using her lampworking skills to create contemporary designs. You can learn how to make micro mosaics in one of Janice's upcoming classes. Her work has been exhibited internationally, featured in many publications, and is in the permanent collections of The Corning Museum of Glass and The Museum of Glass in Tacoma, WA. Fuse Your Glass Off DIY Challenge

The deadline has been extended for the FYGO Challenge. Entries will be judged and prizes awarded during the August Virtual Movie Night on August 27.

Required ingredients for the Challenge are:

Opaque and transparent sheet glass
Frit
Manipulated stringer or vitrigraph
Metal inclusion, aluminum foil is fine

Send a pic of your entry to info@saglassguild.com by the 25th to have your piece uploaded in time for the meeting. (If you don't, be prepared to show it off during the Skype meeting)

Prize for Best FYGO is $25 gift certificate to one of our corporate/studio members. A $20 gift certificate will be chosen by random drawing from remaining participants!

North Lands Creative - Glass, Meet the Future Online Festival

Launching 3 July @ 5 pm GMT (Noon CDT) Until 17 July 2020

The Festival is dedicated to presenting a selection of new films pivoting around the medium of glass and to highlight the global glass community during this unprecedented time. The films include narratives, documentaries, experimental, and hybrid genres – telling stories about how art is made, how artists survive, how they think and work, and what makes creativity our most important skill.

The GMTF Festival launches on Friday July 3rd and continues until July 17th. All the screenings are free by visiting northlandscreative.co.uk website.

San Antonio Glass Art Guild's Response to COVID-19:

Dear SAGAG Members,

Because you, our members, are at the heart of everything we do as an organization, we take our responsibility seriously to keep you as safe and healthy as possible. In this light, we are cancelling our March meeting, and hope to reschedule our McNay glass tour at a future date.

We will reassess the situation in the coming days, and we are exploring technology to provide “virtual” meetings and/or tutorials for future programs, should that be necessary.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding, as we all work to support each other in these trying times.

I hope that you are able to support this Hope for the Future event by donation of silent auction items, personal or professional donation/sponsorship, by spreading the word to friends, and or by attending the 2019 Khaki & Plaid Royal Ball on Saturday Jan. 26, 2019 at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center.

Last year, this event raised close to $1,000,000, all of which went to provide need-based tuition assistance for Catholic and non-Catholic families or to provide assistance to the Catholic schools in the San Antonio area.

This year Hope for the Future assisted more than 2,000 families with more than 2.3 million dollars in tuition assistance.

If you are not familiar with the mission of Hope for the Future, they serve any family in San Antonio and the outlying communities who seek a faith-filled and rigorously academic education for their child or children at one of the 38 Archdiocese of San Antonio Catholic schools.

The tuition assistance enables many families who desire Catholic education for their children the hope for a brighter future. These families who, despite great sacrifice, need some help to send their children to an Archdiocese of San Antonio Catholic school. The median family income for the recipients of tuition assistance is $38,000.

In addition to providing tuition assistance, Hope for the Future also provides direct support to the schools in SA diocese, I encourage you to visit their web site: www. hopeforfuture.org for more information about their mission.

Generations of families throughout the Archdiocese of San Antonio have turned to Catholic schools to provide the academic and spiritual benefits of a Catholic school education. The days are long past when Catholic schools were led and taught primarily by nuns. Catholic schools compete with public, private and charter schools in academics and 21st century skills, but excel in the ability to promote social and moral behavior.

Catholic schools lay the foundation of faith with knowledge that will serve a child for their lifetime.

The legacy of Catholic schools is the formation of successful, involved, moral people with a tradition of service to others and community responsibility.
